Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

Counselling is a helpful tool for anyone facing a difficult season, feeling "stuck," or wanting to understand themselves better. You don't need to be in a crisis to start; proactive mental health care is just as valid as reactive care.

What happens during the assessment?

The initial "assessment" is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what’s bringing you to therapy now, your history, and what you hope to achieve. It’s also a time for you to see if you feel comfortable with my style. You get the chance to make sure I am the right therapist for you!

How many sessions will I need?

This varies and is unique to you. Some clients find clarity in 6 to 12 sessions (short-term), while others prefer long-term, open-ended work. We will review our progress regularly to ensure you’re getting what you need.

Is there a limit to the amount of sessions I can have?

No, I work in an open-ended way. You can have as many sessions as you wish and we will review this throughout the course of our journey together.

Do I have to attend sessions weekly?

I try to keep you in the same session time/day each week to give you consistency. However this may not work for everyone. You can attend weekly, fortnightly or monthly and I am always happy to discuss individual requirements with you.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

Yes, I offer a complimentary 15-30 minute phone or video call. This is a "no-pressure" way for us to see if we are a good fit before you commit to a full session. Using the referral form you can book your own introductory call too.

How much does a session cost?

Individual sessions are priced at £45 for 50 minutes. Couples sessions are priced at £55 for 50 minutes. I also offer concessions with more information available on the Fees & Booking page of my website.

How can I pay for my session?

Payments are currently made via bank transfer, 24 hours before your session. You can also choose to pay by cash if you session is face-to-face.

Do you offer online or in-person sessions?

I offer face-to-face sessions in Thorne, Doncaster. Online sessions are also offered and are conducted via a secure, GDPR-compliant platform to ensure your privacy.

What age of client do you work with?

I currently work with clients aged 12 and upwards.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hours' notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less notice will be charged at 50% of your full rate, as that time has been specifically reserved for you. Further details will be outlined in your therapy contract.

Is therapy confidential?

Absolutely. Everything we discuss is confidential, with a few legal exceptions (such as if there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others). I adhere to the NCPS ethical framework and GDPR guidelines regarding your data.

Are you a registered professional?

Yes, I am a registered member of the NCPS. You can find me on their public register, which ensures I meet the high standards of training and ethics required in the UK.

What does "NCPS Registered" actually mean?

It means I have met the high standards of training and ethical practice required by the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. I am accountable to their professional conduct procedure and complete regular clinical supervision.

What happens if I run into you in public?

To protect your privacy, I won't acknowledge you first if we happen to cross paths in the local area. If you choose to say hello, I’ll follow your lead, but I will never disclose how I know you to others.
