Trauma Counselling

Trauma isn't only about single, dramatic events. It can come from a serious accident, a frightening medical experience, abuse, neglect, or a build-up of smaller experiences over time that left you feeling unsafe or overwhelmed. However it happened, trauma can stay with you long after the event itself, shaping how you think, feel, and respond to the world.

Trauma-informed counselling gives you a steady, paced space to process what happened and reduce its hold on your everyday life — without being pushed to talk about anything before you're ready.

How Trauma Can Show Up

  • Flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, or vivid memories that surface unexpectedly
  • Feeling constantly alert, on edge, or easily startled
  • Avoiding people, places, or situations that bring the memory back
  • Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from yourself
  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe, even in ordinary situations

How Counselling Can Help

We'll work together at a pace you're in control of, building safety and stability before we go anywhere near the detail of what happened. From there, counselling helps you process the experience so it holds less power over your day-to-day life, and rebuild a sense of safety, trust, and connection — with yourself and with others.

You're Not Alone in This

Trauma often overlaps with anxiety, low mood, or the effects of abuse — see the Anxiety Counselling, Depression & Low Mood Counselling, and Abuse Counselling pages if any of these feel relevant. Whatever combination of experiences you're carrying, we can work with all of it together.
